We offer specialist advice on asylum support, housing and immigration, alongside practical help such as food, community activities and health access. Our early‑action approach aims to prevent destitution, reduce isolation and support people to live with dignity while awaiting decisions.

The social group is for anyone either with or awaiting a diagnosis of Autism and their family or friends (over 18 only). It meets twice a month from 5 pm-7 pm. It is within an accessible and autism-friendly location in the middle of West Bromwich in the ground floor café, YMCA, overlooking Carters Green Clock. It is a short walk from public transport and accessible for all, with parking. It is a relaxed and welcoming venue in an open space with large windows and doors on the main street.

Baby birds is a weekly parent and toddler group, whose aim is to nurture a love of nature. The group provides opportunities for children to connect with nature through a mixture of activities that are inspired by the natural world.

Services and Activities
Brushstrokes Community Project provides free, holistic support and community activities for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, helping individuals and families to build stability, improve wellbeing and reduce isolation. Services are delivered from our centre on Smethwick High Street and through outreach across Sandwell and neighbouring areas.
Advice and support services
Brushstrokes offers specialist advice and casework on immigration, asylum support, housing and welfare benefits, including support for people with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). Our early‑action approach aims to prevent homelessness, destitution and crisis by addressing issues as early as possible.
Health, wellbeing and inclusion
We support people to access health services and improve wellbeing through inclusion health work, walking activities and safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect with others and build confidence.
Education, skills and integration
Brushstrokes supports learning and integration through English language practice, digital inclusion and informal learning opportunities that help people improve communication, confidence and independence.
Community activities and social inclusion
Alongside advice services, Brushstrokes delivers a wide range of regular community activities, as outlined in our Community Activities Schedule, including:
Conversation Club (English language practice) – weekly sessions supporting confidence in spoken English
Football sessions – promoting physical wellbeing and social connection
Cycling repair sessions – practical skills and access to affordable transport
Stay & Play sessions for families with children aged 0–2
Gardening and nature group – supporting wellbeing and connection with green spaces
Welcome Wednesday social sessions including table tennis, chess, tea, coffee and conversation

These activities provide safe, inclusive spaces where people can meet others, reduce loneliness, improve physical and mental wellbeing and build supportive community networks.
Practical support and welcoming spaces
Brushstrokes also provides practical assistance such as food and clothing support and a welcoming community environment where people can access help with dignity and respect.
Partnership working
Brushstrokes works closely with local authorities, the NHS and voluntary sector partners to deliver coordinated, place‑based responses to poverty, health inequality and social exclusion. The project is part of Father Hudson’s Caritas, delivering support that is collaborative, inclusive and compassionate.

Where – Crossroads Carers Hub, 494 Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury, B68 8DG.
Crossroads Day Club offers a welcoming, safe and secure place for adults with care needs to enjoy a change of scenery, do a variety of activities, enjoy a hot meal and socialise.
The club is also an opportunity for family carers to have some much-needed respite, although they are welcome to attend too if they prefer.
We encourage independence, but a skilled team of Crossroads Care Support Workers are on hand to assist people with mealtimes and toileting needs if required.
The day club is open to all adults living with any condition, including dementia, regardless of whether they currently access Crossroads care services or not.
There will be a range of social activities each week, including quizzes, puzzles, card games and gentle exercise for those who can, with staff ensuring that everyone has an enjoyable and fulfilling time.
