Befriending

By BUDS - Better Understanding of Dementia for Sandwell

This free service offers weekly visits by trained volunteers to people diagnosed with Dementia in their own homes, to provide companionship and reduce feelings of isolation. It also provides regular breaks for the family carer. It fulfils similar functions to the Activity Sessions but with a focus on people who find it difficult to leave the house due to the effects of the Dementia or other conditions, or who do not wish to socialise in groups, preferring one to one contact within a familiar environment. Activities are centred around individual interests, examples could be listening to music, reading, reminiscing, or simply quality time having a good chat. All volunteers undertake Induction training and have a current DBS check before the initial introduction and commencement of visits.
