Sandwell Together Telephone Befriending Service is an established and ongoing service that supports older people across Sandwell who are experiencing loneliness, social isolation, and reduced emotional wellbeing.

Our trained volunteer befrienders provide regular telephone calls to older people including individuals living alone, carers, people with disabilities, and those living with long-term physical or mental health conditions. Many of the people we support are unable to access community activities due to mobility issues, ill health, caring responsibilities, transport barriers, or a lack of confidence. Many do not have access to family or social support networks. For these individuals, a regular telephone call can provide an invaluable source of companionship and connection.

Through friendly, consistent conversations, volunteers offer a listening ear, emotional support, and reassurance.
The service helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, improves confidence and self-esteem, and promotes positive mental wellbeing.
