Arthritis Community Champion service is delivered in the community by Arthritis Care's volunteers. Volunteer champions role is to set up regular information points in accessible, community venues and provide a series of drop-in sessions for people to visit. At the drop-in sessions Champions will be able to listen, provide accurate information about arthritis services/support and signpost to other local services relevant to the need of the client. The Champions are given extensive training by Arthritis Care in order to carry out this service. They have personal experience of arthritis so can empathise with the client and convey benefits of self management, offer tips on how to self manage and encourage clients to take up activities and make life style changes that promote healthier and happier life style.
Some Champions will be able to give Arthritis Awareness talks to community groups or offer a more in-depth 1-2-1 support. Service will be operational in the area from August 2014 onwards and will be promoted via posters and local media.
