With funding from Arts Council England (£15,000) and SCVO’s 2030 Community Grants fund (£5000) we have launched our new project ‘U Are Here’ in January 2020. The project explores, celebrates and presents the culture, lived experiences and journeys of people who have migrated to the UK from Eastern Europe, making a new home in the Black Country and wider West Midlands. It will also highlight the shared experiences that exist between the UK and Eastern Europe now and historically. Using the metaphor of bird migration, those taking part will help inform, develop, design and create a series of sculptural birdhouses depicting elements of folklore, architecture, language and wildlife from a number of Eastern European countries including Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic and the UK.
